The
Priests and the Parishioners of Saint Rose Parish joyfully welcome the
Most Reverend Bishop and the priests and religious, along with our
former parishioners and friends to celebrate with us the Centenary of
our beloved parish. The venerable, living members of Saint Rose Parish,
the very young, and all of us most gratefully rejoice on this day of
Jubilee.
May our
gracious Patron, Saint Rose of
Lima
, gladly represent all of us on this day in the courts of heaven as she
has so generously through the past hundred years. May she, our heavenly
'fragrant representative, lead us still nearer to the Sacred Heart of
Our Lord. May all the most admirable priests and sisters and
parishioners of Saint Rose, who have gone to eternity before us, and
who, please God, are today numbered among the nobility of heaven, be
with us in our fervent oblation of thanksgiving.
All of us of Saint Rose Parish have so very much to be thankful for. We
are thankful for all the extraordinary blessings and graces that have so
constantly distinguished these hundred years. Among them are the
blessings and graces of the many vocations to the holy priesthood and
the religious life, and the blessings and graces of the truly Catholic
fathers and mothers and sons and daughters, who from the pioneers to the
present have held high the standards of Catholic life. We are grateful
for the special blessings and graces that have come to us from the
devoted and edifying and deeply revered previous pastors and assistant
pastors of this parish. We are grateful to our Most Reverend Bishop who
generously offers today our Solemn Pontifical Votive Mass. We are
grateful to the many priests and religious who have come to be with us.
We are grateful to Father John Shanahan, one of our own, who has so
beautifully written of the hundred years of our parish. We are grateful
to rather Devine and to Father Drouillard, and to all of the
parishioners who have so generously assisted in arranging this
celebration.
May all of us of Saint Rose please God today? May we prove worthy of our
rich inheritance. May our vocations continue and increase. May future
generations carry on with God's holy grace the glorious traditions of
these hundred years?

Feast of
St. Rose of
Lima
August 30, 1956
Dear Monsignor McKeown,
To you and to all the members of your devoted flock I wish to extend
sincere felicitations and congratulations on the Centenary of St. Rose
Parish.
Fittingly, the occasion should be observed in a solemn manner. The
celebration should recall the high lights of the history of the parish
and the innumerable blessings that have come to it collectively and to
the members individually. Heartfelt gratitude to the Giver of all good
things should keynote the celebration.
If there is a feature of St. Rose Parish history that draws our
attention more than another and that calls for more than a passing word
of appreciation and commendation, it is the large number of vocations to
the priesthood and the religious life given to the Diocese and to fields
beyond our territorial lines. These priests and religious, in and
outside the Diocese, have rendered and are rendering highly meritorious
work for Christ and His Church: indeed they include outstanding members
of our own clergy. These noble sons and daughters of St. Rose Parish are
undoubtedly one of God's ways of showing His pleasure in the labors of
zealous priests and in the family life of exemplary Catholic parents.
May the present generation of St. Rose Parish, mindful of the precious
heritage that is theirs, hold fast to it, make its pricelessness known
to their youth, and characterize themselves by the same kind of faith
and charity, generosity and sacrifice that is a mark of the greatness of
their forebears.
May the future of St. Rose Parish be even more memorable and glorious
than its past.
Faithfully yours in Christ,
MOST REV. GEORGE J. REHRING, STD Bishop of
Toledo
Rt. Rev. William McKeown
